As I was crawling out of bed a couple of mornings ago I was surprised that a bird flew right up and landed on the windowsill outside. It looked to be the very largest, fattest blue jay I have ever seen. It looked in at me and tapped three times on the window with its beak. It sat looking puzzled for a few more seconds and flew away. I was awestruck. What a beautiful sight it was. I was able to see that lovely bird up close for those few seconds. Why Do Roses Have Thorns?

Roses are some of the most beautiful and sought after flowers. You can quickly pick most kinds of flowers and take a big smell and feel good for a little while after. But if you try that with a rose you might just get a finger pricked with one of its thorns. Maybe our first reaction is that it's such a shame that roses have thorns that could hurt us this way. Why do they have to do that? All we really wanted to do was pick them and love them and then watch them slowly die. Why would a such a beautiful rose take offense to that? Okay, let's get serious. You can smell rain in the air. In the distance you hear thunder rumbling, moving closer and closer. Lightning arcs across the sky or perhaps shoots straight to the ground as you look and watch for the storm to come. The hairs on your arms and the back of your neck prickle with the change of electricity in the air. You sweat a bit at the heat and humidity in the air. Rain is coming.
