Eerie Bird Superstitions

As I was crawling out of bed a couple of mornings ago I was surprised that a bird flew right up and landed on the windowsill outside. It looked to be the very largest, fattest blue jay I have ever seen. It looked in at me and tapped three times on the window with its beak. It sat looking puzzled for a few more seconds and flew away. I was awestruck. What a beautiful sight it was. I was able to see that lovely bird up close for those few seconds. Strange Superstitions About Feathers

My granddaughter is constantly finding feathers. When she was small I repeated to her what I had been told, that when you find a feather, it means that someone who died is thinking of you. She often finds them in groups of three. She is certain that they are from her great-grandmother and two great aunts. They were very important to her and now she feels that they watch over her. I've been thinking that we don't feature photos of the sky very much for our Free Wallpaper. I've always liked this particular photo so that's just the one I'll share with you this time. Sky is something a part of nature that's always there for us. It's not like it will ever just fall or something, will it? Calm down, Chicken Little.

Why Do Roses Have Thorns?

Roses are some of the most beautiful and sought after flowers. You can quickly pick most kinds of flowers and take a big smell and feel good for a little while after. But if you try that with a rose you might just get a finger pricked with one of its thorns. Maybe our first reaction is that it's such a shame that roses have thorns that could hurt us this way. Why do they have to do that? All we really wanted to do was pick them and love them and then watch them slowly die. Why would a such a beautiful rose take offense to that? Okay, let's get serious. Why do roses really have thorns? Is there a big secret behind this, or is the answer so obvious it might just poke us right in the nose? Let's examine the answer to these questions just a bit. You can smell rain in the air. In the distance you hear thunder rumbling, moving closer and closer. Lightning arcs across the sky or perhaps shoots straight to the ground as you look and watch for the storm to come. The hairs on your arms and the back of your neck prickle with the change of electricity in the air. You sweat a bit at the heat and humidity in the air. Rain is coming.
