Innocent Little Deer

I came upon this small young White-tailed Deer right beside the hiking trail. We were both equally very surprised. The deer was so close I could have reached out and touched it. But it didn't run away. It just stood there looking at me. It looked so innocent as we stared at each other, human and deer. I'll never forget this encounter.

This is maybe the closest I have ever been to a deer, but I have come almost as close many other times. Deer are plentiful where I live, so I have seen them at least every month, usually more frequently. My backyard is a favorite place of theirs, but it's easier to get close to them at the many nature parks near me. I soon found out why this deer didn't want to leave so quickly. There was a small apple tree right there beside us. And the deer had its fill of those apples before it finally left.

Rat Tales is where I get to share some of the fiction that I write. No photos there though, just some very cool stories.
