Gray Hairstreak Butterfly

The Free Wallpaper this time is of a Gray Hairstreak Butterfly. It was contributed by Steve from Out On The Prairie. I hope to be able to bring you more from Steve, because he does very good work. Leave him a comment, and let him know what you think. Steve takes nature photos exclusively, and he doesn't leave home without his camera.

Let's let Steve tell about this photo in his own words.

"A Gray Hairstreak sits on a Gray-headed Coneflower in a prairie near Lake Red Rock. The butterfly moves its wings so the rear appendage looks like antennae and the spots eyes so a predator would grab there first for a meal so it has a chance to escape. There wouldn't be much of a meal, they are about the size of a thumbnail."
