Black Swallowtail On Rosinweed

This week's Free Wallpaper was contributed by Steve from Out On The Prairie. We have been seeing a lot of him around here recently, which makes us all very glad. Steve takes nature photos exclusively, and he doesn't leave home without his camera. That's the kind of dedication I like.

Let's let Steve tell about this photo in his own words.

"This is a Black Swallowtail sitting on a Rosinweed at Pioneer Ridge Nature Center located just south of Ottumwa, IA. At the center you can enjoy a beautiful restored prairie, with enough diversity to attract many species of butterflies. Also you can enjoy a Butterflies of Wapello County photo exhibit with blown up photos of over twenty –two species taken by Out On The Prairie. I enjoy hiking the woodlands and prairie, joining in a variety of educational programs, banding birds and planting new plants to enlarge the prairie."

If you would like to see more of Steve's photos, and his excellent stories, you can find them at his blog, Out On The Prairie, and even more of his photos on his Flickr site. He writes fiction that is based on the lives of his family and friends. He interviewed them to get the essence of their experiences with nature and life on the prairie.
