A Nature Walk With: Poetic Shutterbug

Poetic Shutterbug is the name used by Joanne. She takes lots and lots of pictures and shares them on her blog. One of her favorite places is Hong Kong but she also spends a lot of her energy at the Botannical Gardens. It is a pleasant visit when you read her blog. I wanted to know more about her so i invited her to take a nature walk with us.

01. Welcome to Nature Center Magazine. We are all anxious to learn a little bit about you. Tell us what your blog is all about.

My blog began back in 2008 as a means to share my poetry and became a venue for my photography. I have since integrated all of my work and business site links with my blog and now use it as my website.

02. Everyone has their own unique story about what gave them the idea to start blogging. What is yours?

I had taken a couple of trips to Hong Kong and was so inspired by those trips that I began to blog in order to share my experiences while taking a journey through that mesmerizing country.

03. What do you enjoy about nature and what benefits do you derive from it?

Nature brings me to another world. It fuels my heart and soul with peace, tranquility and a sense of serenity that nothing else can provide. I am lucky enough to work in an environment that surrounds me with these gifts each day and there is just nothing like it. When surrounded by nature you realize that there is nothing else you need.

04. Each of us has our own way of being with nature. Some people hike, some take pictures, and some climb trees. How do you experience nature?

I experience nature by observing the wildlife that surrounds me and listening to their song. I breathe the freshness the flowers and trees provide and I walk the paths sometimes with camera in hand and sometimes not. I immerse myself in the natural setting with all of my senses in tune.

05. Tell us about the most exciting or scary nature related thing that ever happened to you.

I've not yet experienced anything scary but have experienced a few exciting things. One that comes to mind is a few months ago before I began working at the Botanical Gardens my friend and I went there on my birthday early in the morning. We walked in to find a red tailed hawk bathing in the library courtyard fountain which is a rare sight. You normally see them high in the trees so to see them this up close and personal was a real treat. I was able to get about 20 feet from him taking photos. It was one of the best birthday gifts I've ever received.

06. If you were to take us on a nature tour of your area where would you take us first?

I would take you to the San Francisco Botanical Gardens.

Describe what we would see.

You would see plant species, trees and flowers from all over the world with over 29 different gardens and over 8,000 plant species. You'd see protea in the South Africa gardens. You'd see rhododendron occidentals, poppies, irises in the California native gardens. You'd see ancient plants and Chilean rhubarb in the ancient plant gardens. You'd see a very unique New Zealand Christmas tree. You'd experience wildlife around the entire garden with red tailed hawks, blue herons, mallard ducks, quail, turtles, stellar jays, white crowned sparrows and much more. You'd experience a natural enchanted oasis.

07. If you could visit any nature spot in the world, what would it be? Tell us why.

That is very tough to answer as there are so many. I have always been mesmerized by the Sierra Nevada Mountain range and forests. I would love to explore, hike and journey through that region at some point in time.

08. Each blogger has gained their own insight into writing a blog. What have you learned that you would like to share with other bloggers?

Blogging for me is about sharing. I enjoy sharing my experiences as well as reading about what other bloggers have been experiencing. Blog sharing is getting to know others on a more intimate and personal level.

09. Where can our readers find you? Give us the name and a link to your blog. If you have more than one to share, we would all like that too.

You can find me at Poetic Shutterbug
My Collectibles Store Jo's Collectibles Mercantile

10. Is there anything we have not discussed that you would like to add?

I think we've covered it all. Thank you.
