A Year With The Trees

What a novel idea! A Year With The Trees is just that... a post each day about trees. It is written by Rebecca who dedicates the blog to her family. She is working to earn a Naturalist Certification in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park and an Environmental Education Certificate for the state of North Carolina. Did I mention she's an


environmentalist and a chemist? She also co-authors another blog about tree photography and information. Rebecca is a very busy lady.

The premise of this blog is that Rebecca will post about a tree every single day of the year. This does not mean 365 different trees. She makes a point of showing her trees in each of the four seasons. Her goal, as I understand it, is to educate me about different trees and to help me to identify them.

The Pig-Nut Hickory post is a good example. She wrote about this tree on September 16. Then she points out that it was also the tree for March, June, September, and December 16. Of course December is not yet here so I can't wait to see what she has for me then. In March she did not have a picture, but a friend assisted her in June.

The Sourwood tree is beautiful. The tiny Lily of the Valley flowers are gorgeous. This tree is native to North America. The leaves are sour but apparently make a good tea for quenching thirst. It will be on my "to try" list.

I could go on and on about the trees but that would spoil your enjoyment. Rebecca is also a bit of a philosopher. Interspersed through her trees you will find quotes such as "Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned." Buddha  A piece of advice from Rebecca is "Listen to your intuition it is your true self talking to you". Just pay attention as you are learning about the trees and you will find luscious tidbits like these.
